Gonzalez to University of the Southwest
Hartnell College sophomore cross country/track & field athlete Lorena Gonzalez has chosen the University of the Southwest (NAIA) in Hobbs, New Mexico to continue her academic and athletic pursuits in 2020-2021. Gonzalez was in fact a three sport athlete while at Hartnell College, playing soccer her freshman year for coach Ivan Guerrero. This fall, she was a member of the Coast Conference winning team in her first season running for the Panthers. Lorena added to the team championship with scoring places in the 3k steeplechase, 5000m, and 10,000 meter runs. She placed 8th in her first ever Northern California Track & Field Championship helping the Panthers to a historic back-to-back team title. This fall she placed 47th at the Norcal Preview Meet at Toro Park in a lifetime best 21:53. She was 20th overall in her first Coast Conference Championship.
Lorena will become the eighth athlete to venture to New Mexico for the Panthers. She will join current Mustang team members, Ray Gonzalez, Idalys Romero, and Veronica Aguilar. Lorena will major in Exercise Science.
