Reimann Breaks Hammer Record in First Meet
Austrian transplant Isabella Reimann came to Hartnell College after graduating from Notre Dame High School hoping the program could help her secure an athletic scholarship. In just a little over a year of competition with the Panthers, Reimann has picked up several new events, thrown the hammer the second furthest distance ever in school history, and earned All-American honors by placing second at last year's CCCAA State Championship. In just her second throw of the 2023 season at the MPC Premiere Meet, Reimann uncorked a toss of 51.35m (168-5) that bettered Clarissa Hernandez's school record set in 2011 at 162-7. Hernandez won the CCCAA title with that mark and is Hartnell's only hammer throw champion. Reimann appears to be on pace to not only acheive the same but also establish a new record that might last much longer than the previous. She joins Hernandez as only the second female to eclipse the 160 foot barrier. She currently has the best throw in the nation for all community colleges and leads the second best mark in the state by five meters.
Last spring, Reimann's teammate Katelyn Strader was right with her all season joining her in Walnut for the CCCAA State Championship. In this first meet, Strader lead the team in the discus with a mark of 35.46m (116-4) good for third place. Strader opened the season over four meters better than last year. She was also third in the hammer with a mark of 38.28m (125-7). Freshman Grace Padron opened up with a mark of 30.57m (100-9) surpassing the 100 foot barrier in her first competition. She lead the Panthers in the shot put at 8.93m (29-3.75).
Freshman Daisy Macias made a name for herself in her first competition posting lifetime best in the 100mH (17.80) to win her heat and clearing 1.42m (4-7.75) in the high jump. Sophomore Lorraine Mankins won the pole vault competition in a State "A" mark 2.97m (9-9). Her long jump mark of 4.89m (16-0.50) took second and her 100mH mark of 17.02 lowered her personal best from 17.11 last season. Clodine Tabernilla joined Mankins in the long jump and got an early season mark of 4.68m (15-4.25). Mercedes Rosales-Rivera cleared 1.37m (4-6) just one inch off her best from 2022.
Tabernilla lead all Panther women in the sprints doubling 13.22 in the 100 meters and then lowering her personal best in the 200 meters to 27.80, her first time under 28 seconds. Roxana Ruelas prepped for her future hurdle races with a lifetime best 13.35 in the 100 meters.
Defending CCCAA State Champion Sofia Camacho and state qualifier Andrea Villegas took the top two spots in the 1500 meters and 800 meters. In the 1500 meters, Camacho crossed the line in 4:52.24, easily under the State "A" mark with the pleasant surprise of Villegas under the "B" mark right behind in 4:56.52. The duo would switch finishing places in the 800 meters with Villegas taking the win in lifetime best 2:20.99 and Camacho at 2:21.30. The two are now ranked first and second in the state.
The Panthers will return to action this coming Saturday in Hayward at the Chabot Opener. The women's hammer throw will be contested Friday at 12:00pm and the remaining schedule on Saturday beginning at 10:00am.
