Padron Earns All-State in Hammer Throw
Competing in her first 3C2A Championship, sophomore Grace Padron accomplished nearly all one could ask for. The former Salinas High School standout, no only placed sevent overall in the state but finished her career with a lifetime personal best of 150'7". That mark finally broke the tie with Cindy Rojas at 150'1" for the fourth best all-time mark in the hammer throw. Padron concluded her Hartnell College career with a Coast Conference Championship in the hammer throw, a second place finish at the Northern California Champioship, and an all-state performance in her firs state championship.
Freshman Roselyn Olivo will look to return to the state championship next year but used this year's competition to place tenth in the 1500 meters in 4:53.95. After a disappointing Northern California Championship where Olivo had been ill, she rebounded to compete well in her final 1500 meter race of the season. She finishes her first year as the Coast Conference Champion in the event and eleventh fastest all-time in 4:49.46.
Daisy Macias also qualified to her first state championsip and placed eleventh overall. Despite a fall in the first event of the heptathlon, Macias would go on to set event personal bests in the shot put and 800 meter run. Her score of 3656 points was her second best despite the challenging start to the competition. Daisy finishes her Hartnell career ranked all-time in the heptathlon in Hartnell history.
Freshman Jimena Hernandez-Tejeda also competed in the 3k steeplechase and placed twelfth.
