Hartnell Women Ninth at Norcals
After a long season navigating the renovation of the track & field complex at Hartnell College, the Panther women were able to place in the top 10 overall as a team after four consecutive years of winning. Ten women placed on the top 8 podium lead by sophomore Grace Padron's runner-up finish in the hammer throw. She moves up from eighth as a freshman and advances to her first 3C2A State Championship. She had a mark of 44.79m, having only thrown one time all season under 40 meters.
In the running events, freshman Roselyn Olivo placed fourth in her first 10,000m final (41:58.66), fifth in the 1500 meters (5:06.68), and eighth in the 800 meters (2:31.08). Jimena Hernandez-Tejeda picked up her first Northern California track & field medal with a fourth place in the 3k steeplechase (12:46.78). Sophomore Maria Garcia ran a personal best 43:28.30 to place sixth in the 10,000 meters. Sophomore Daisy Macias was seventh in both hurdles races with times of 16.10 and 71.53. Freshman Taylan Flower broke 70 for the first time in the 400mLH at 69.72 to place seventh. The 4x400 relay team of Aileen Sandoval, Daisy Macias, Taylan Flower, and Emily Orozco placed seventh in 4:22.51.
Besides Padron's second place in the hammer, she was also tenth in the discus with a mark of 34.61m. Freshman Naia Hobson nearly picked up a medal in her first javelin final placed ninth with a personal best 28.28m.
Grace Padron, Daisy Macias, Jimena Hernandez-Tejeda, Maria Garica, and Roselyn Olivo will represent the Panthers at the 3C2A State Championship, May 17-18 at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, CA.
