Hartnell Women Third at Coast Conference
Despite not having a track all season, the Hartnell College women were able to put together a gutsy third place team finish at the 2024 Coast Conference Championship. The Panthers fell just two points short of finishing in the runner-up spot. The women did manage six individual event victories, lead by three for freshman Roselyn Olivo.
Olivo started her championship with an easy victory over the 25 lap 10,000 meter race held on Friday at Chabot College. She pulled away from her competitors over the final 1000 meters to run 41:10.13, a victory by 18 seconds. On Saturday, she started the day off with a win the 1500 meters running 5:03.81 and ended her day with a 17 second victory in the 5000 meters at 19:46.19. In between, she managed a solid third place finish in the 800 meters (2:26.04). Sophomore Daisy Macias tallied victories in the 100 meter hurdles (15.80) and 400m low hurdle (69.74). She was runner-up in the 400mLH and fouth in the 100mH as a freshman. Grace Padron was the final winner in the hammer throw. She would take the competition with a liftetime best 45.75m to win by almost two meters.
Panther women who placed second included Arianna Noriega-Cabrera (javelin), Jimena Hernandez-Tejeda (3k Steeplechase), and Taylan Flower (400mLH). Bronze medal finishers were Olivo in the 800 meters and Naia Hobson in the javelin.
The Panthers will compete next for the first time over one weekend in the Northern California Championship at American River College on May 3-4.
