Panther Women Produce at Hancock
The Henry Kirk Invitational is in its second year and continued to provide the Hartnell College women's track & field team an opportunity to compete against Southern California community colleges without a long travel trip. The Panther women battled a windy Santa Maria afternoon to still produce several season bests, conference and Norcal top 10 ranked marks, and compete in new events. The meet was attended by Allan Hancock College, Porterville College, Santa Barbara City College, and Cuesta College representing the south and Hartnell College and Monterey Peninsula Peninsula College representing the north.
Freshman phenom Jenna Emerson debuted in the 100 meters and long jump to the tune of a lifetime best 12.55 in the 100 meters and 5.14m in the long jump. Both were event winning marks. She also won the 200m in 26.54. Sophomore Roselyn Olivo improved facility and meet record in the 800 meters running a solo 2:25.47. She was just 0.2 seconds off the State "B" in the 800 meters. Emily Orozco competed in the 100m hurdles for the first time (18.53). Arianna Cabrera-Noriega established a new personal best in the high jump (1.40m). Daisy Andrade eclipsed hte 30 foot barrier for the first tiime in the triple jump (9.19m). Marissa Avelar-Hernandez also eclipsed the 30 foot barrier but in the shot put (9.19m) and won the hammer (35.12m). Isolina Mittelsteadt Barrett lead in the discus with a second place finish (31.46m). Taylan Flower prepped for the heptathlon with a lifetime best javelin throw (25.64m). Hartnell as a team placed second with 127 points just two points away from winning the team competition. Cuesta College edged the Panthers by two points.
The Panthers will compete next at the Pat Ryan Invitational/Multi-Event on March 13-14 at Santa Rosa Junior College.
