Flower Adds Heptathlon Qualifier at Pat Ryan
Competing in her first ever full seven event heptathlon, sophomore Taylan Flower acheived the State "B" qualfying mark posting a total score of 3034 points. The Pat Ryan Invitational was held at Santa Rosa Junior College with the heptathlon taking place over two days. On day one, Flower opened with a 17.60 time in the 100mH then improved her shot put best to 6.85m. Flower cleared 1.43m in the high jump and just missed at a lifetime best 1.48m. She finished day one of the heptathlon with a season best 200m (29.86). To start day two, Flower jumped 4.30m in the long jump. Rain hampered the javelin as she was only able to toss it 19.79m to get a mark and hold her position. To complete the heptathlon, Flower ran her first ever competitive 800 meters in 2:48.49. Flower finished fourth in the hepthatlon competition and is currently ranked eighth in Northern California.
The regular porition of the Pat Ryan Invitational saw bouts of rain in Santa Rosa but the Panthers were still able to produce some season bests highlighted by the performances of freshman phenom Jenna Emerson. Emerson started her day with the top two year college time of 15.81 in the 100mH and doubled back with a 66.59 time in the 400mLH, the second fastest of her career. Sophomore Roselyn Olivo put in a solid day's work running the open 400m (63.82), 800m (2:27.87), and 5000m (19:11.79). Freshman Janai Orozco attempted a similar triple with the 1500m (5:07.23), 800m (2:31.41) and 5000m (20:07.84). The 4x400 relay team of Emerson, Olivo, Orozco, and Emily Orozco produced their second best time of the seaosn with a 4:16.39.
In the field events, basketball player Dominayah Black made her debut clearing 1.38m with Emily Orozco leading at 1.45m again. Isolina Mittelsteadt Barrett lead in the discus (31.68m). Marissa Avelar-Hernandez got a lifetime best in the hammer (39.10) as she nears the 40m barrier. Daisy Andrade also completed the heptathlon with a score a 2652 points.
