Flower and Andrade Compete in Heptathlon Championship
One year after having one heptathlete at the Norcal Heptathlon Championship, the Hartnell College women's team sent two in Taylan Flower and Daisy Andrade. Flower would add over 200 points from her score just a month ago and place ninth overall in the field of seventeen. Andrade gained multi-event experience in completing her second ever seven event competition.
Day one comprised of the 100mH, high jump, shot put, and 200 meters. Flower, who had just set lifetime best of 16.97, couldn't quite find her rhythm and was only able to record a 17.90. Andrade was timed in 19.17. Flower would move up the standings after placing sixth in the high jump clearing 1.43m. Andrade managed to clear 1.19m. Flower would notch a lifetime best shot put 7.64m good for eleventh with Andrade only able to muster 6.03m, far off her event best. The day concluded on a high note with both setting 200 meter season bests with Flower at 28.30 and Andrade 29.17.
On the second day, Flower was 3.83m and Andrade 3.76m in the long jump. Ultimately, this event cost Flower her top 8 finish as her long jump was well under her season best of 4.38m. She was finish eighth in the javelin with a mark of 24.98m with Andrade a best of 20.43m. To their surpise, both set personal bests in the 800 meters at 2:36.69 for Flower and 2:38.45 for Andrade. Flower's total score was 3286, four points better than the State "A" but she would need three women ahead of her to pass on the event for a chance to compete in it at the 3C2A State Championship. Andrade rallied for another 2600+ score but showed potential to score much higher.
