Bio

Freshman Year: Nerina enjoyed a very good first season with the Panthers. She improved on all her course personal bests throughout the season and enjoyed all-conference honors in her first season. Nerina surprised herself with a top 14 finish at the Norcal Championship to earn all-region honors. Her top 14 performance was the nail in a 19 point team performance that established an all-time championship record. In her first CCCAA Championship, Nerina placed a respectable 56th place overall, good enough to best all but three teams fifth placing runner. In the spring, Nerina placed at the regional championship in two individual events and as a member of the 4x400 relay. Her fourth place finish in the 1500 meters earned her an opportunity to compete in the same event at the CCCAA Championship where she placed eighth in a lifetime best despite rainy conditions.

Prior to Hartnell: Nerina has two years of cross country experience from Everett Alvarez High School but did not compete as a senior. She did place 26th overall at the Salinas City Championship as a junior.

"Nerina did the work this summer logging some impressive mileage while also working on her strength. She's gone from a shy, tentative runner to one with more confidence and readiness to get the job done. She's part of a special group of sophomores that I have watched grow together and achieve some great things along the way. Nerina is ready to move into the upper echelon of distance running starting this fall."
