Redshirt Freshman Year: Transferred into Hartnell in the fall and trained with cross country. In spring, played softball for most of the season before switching her attention to trainning for the fall 2019 cross country season.

Prior to Hartnell: Shantal was a member of the Notre Dame (Salinas) team that finished second at the Salinas City Championship, second in CCS Division IV, and advanced to the CIF State Championship. She was the seventh place finisher in her CCS race running 19:55 at Crystal Spring. She brings to Hartnell a 20:12 Woodward Park personal best.

"Shantal had to sit out last fall after transferring back from Ohio Valley. It was a blessing in disguise. She was able to spend the year realizing how much she loved running and being on a team, especially with the group she has come to call her own. She's done great training this summer and despite one minor hiccup she's on pace to run much faster than she did at Woodward Park in high school. A fiery competitor, she gives us another vergy dangerous woman who should compete for a top 14-21 finish at state."
