Olivo Leads Panthers to Sixth at Clovis Invite
Competing for the first time in the 2024 cross country season, the Hartnell College women placed sixth overall at the Clovis Crush Invitational. Held on the 5k layout at Woodward Park, the meet served as the state meet preview for which will be held November 23rd. Lead by sophomore Roselyn Olivo in ninth place overall, the Panthers tallied 156 points. San Diego Mesa College, the defending state champions, were first with 56 points and host Clovis Community College was second with 84 points. Clovis runner Rhiannon Walker was the overall winner in 18:39.
Olivo, who placed sixth last year in this meet, found herself leading a chase pack in the first mile and was still amongst the top 5 at two miles. Although she would lose a few spots over the final mile, her time of 19:51 is 19 seconds faster than her debut on the course as a freshman. Much improved sophomore Jimena Hernandez would place 24th overall but more importantly just six seconds off her personal best for the course in 20:48. Right behind her was freshman Janai Orozco in 20:52. Fellow freshman Yareli Meza enjoyed a solid debut running 21:21. Freshman Cristal Baeza would step up for the Panthers in her debut to finish as the fifth scoring runner in 23:26. Finishing in the top seven were the Isabelle Rocha (24:05) and Isabella Rocha (24:25).
