Olivo and Hernandez-Tejeda Pace Panthers at George Brooks
Despite running without three Panther women, the Hartnell College women's cross country team was still able to secure a third place team finish at the George Brooks Memorial Invitational in Martinez, CA. They finished behind Socal ranked #4 Allan Hancock College and Norcal #2 and host Diablo Valley College. Sophomores Roselyn Olivo, in second place, and Jimena Hernandez-Tejeda, in tenth overall, gave the Panthers two in the top 10 overall.
Olivo ran in a pack of seven early in the race but over the final two miles she would separate herself with the overall winner Itandehui Olea of Allan Hancock. Olivo would finish in 19:14, seven seconds ahead of Coast Conference foe Ericka Dorn of College of San Mateo. Hernandez-Tejeda positioned herself well early and ran consistently within the top 10 the entire race. Freshman Yareli Meza stepped up as the third scoring Panther with a fourteenth place finish in 21:12. Sophomore Isabelle Rocha (22:52) and freshman Lucero Benigno (23:01) stepped up with their scoring performances. Cristal Baeza (24:40) and Natalia Tapia San Miguel (25:25) also competed.
