Panther Women Runner-up at Toro Park Invitational
The Hartnell College women placed second as a team at the Toro Park Invitational as they prepare to win their third top three trophy in the last four years. The women were second in 2023 and are currently ranked second heading into October. With a score of 88 points, the Panthers were seven ahead of American River College but trail last year's champion Clovis Community College by 27 points.
Sophomore Roselyn Olivo was the runner-up as a freshman and this year finds herself in the same position after placing second in 19:26. She chased eventual winner Rhiannon Walker through the first 1.65 miles and maintained her advantage over third place to the finish line. Freshman Janai Orozco appears to have the potential to be all-region in a month after placing eleventh in 20:07. Sophomore Jimena Hernandez-Tejeda was 23rd in 21:18 with fellow Greenfield grad Yareli Meza in 28th at 21:30. Karen Perez (22:56) rounded out the socring five. Lucero Benigno (23:17) and Cristal Baeza (23:24) were in the top 7 for the Panthers.
The Panthers will travel north for the Butte College Invitational. The meet will be held on the campus of Butte College on Friday, October 11 at 10am. Head Hartnell Coach Chris Zepeda was an assistant coach at Butte College from 2004 to 2006.
