Deniz Leads Panthers in San Diego
The 2022 cross country season has officially witnessed the Hartnell men travel nearly all the way to Oregon and now all the way to Mexico in preparation for this year's Northern California and CCCAA State Championship. Competing at the Manny Bautista Invitational, the Panthers faced the largest field of the season and three top teams from Southern California. The meet was also attended by several Arizona community colleges. After the dust settled at Liberty Station Park, the Panthers finished sixth overall just one point from a top five finish.
Sophomore Esteban Deniz lead for the fourth straight meet. Fresh of his 5000m track personal best, Deniz had to catch up to teammate Jose Velazquez who followed the early leaders for nearly three miles. Deniz would get to the finish line first for the Panthers in 20:50. Velazquez held on valiantly for a sixteenth place finish in 21:04. Moises Benito (21:28) was 30th and Ricky Diaz III (21:38) in 36th. Running with top 5 runner Daniel Pantoja, Jesse Blanco stepped up with his first sub 22 minute clocking (21:58) followed by sophomore Joshua Riley (22:09) and Liam Pattison (22:31).
The Panthers will run over familiar terrain this coming Friday, October 14th as they host the annual Toro Park Invitational.
