Felix Leads Lady Panthers to 12th Place Finish
The Hartnell College women's cross country has shown promise all season but looked to rebound at the CCCAA Championship in Fresno after a slight upset at the regional championship. After winning the Coast Conference title over foe DeAnza College, the Dons turned the tables on the Lady Panthers besting them by 3 points to take the runner-up trophy at the regional championship. In the final competition of the fall, the Lady Panthers rallied to end the season as the top team in conference by placing 12th overall.
Sophomores Yvette Felix and Beatriz Duarte both dipped under the 20:00 barrier in the championship. Felix lowered her lifetime best at Woodward Park by 15 seconds to 19:27 to placed 32nd. Duarte, who did not run amongst the top seven for the Panthers as a frosh, almost cracked the top 50 with her 19:47. The time lowered her best by 33 seconds. Jocelyn Cervantes (20:54) and Alyssa Sanchez (21:00) also enjoyed season bests. Tanya Campos (21:08), Leslie Oseguera (21:27) and Yvette Tavarez (21:28) rounded out the team. With four of the top seven returning in 2017, the Lady Panthers have a solid foundation to build from.
